Kagamuga Airport bomb threat a hoax

A threat of bomb attack in Western Highland's capital, Mt Hagen has turned out to be a hoax, according to the State of Emergency (SOE) Controller, David Manning.

In an update published yesterday, Manning stated that he was informed of an anonymous caller that threatened to bomb the Kagamuga Airport and then threatened to bomb an Air Niugini aircraft that was kept overnight at the same airport. The same caller allegedly called Heli Solutions and made similar threats.

On Saturday 2 May, whilst travelling to Mt Hagen onto Porgera I was informed of a call from an anonymous person threatening to bomb Kagamuga Airport in Mt Hagen. The caller stated that he was not happy with the government and therefore will bomb Kagamuga Airport. The caller called back later threatening to bomb an Air Niugini aircraft that was kept overnight in Mt Hagen. The same called also called Heli Solutions in Mt Hagen and made similar threats. The threats were treated seriously, with Kagamuga airport being immediately closed.  
Manning said he would not be taking the matter lightly and a thorough investigation will be conducted and the caller held accountable.

Meanwhile, he also stated that a total of 123 Papua New Guinea citizens imprisoned in Jayapura will be repatriated back to the country. The first 39 will be repatriated sometime next week.

Asylum porn stars on Manus Island

Manus MP, Ronny Knight The Manus island processing center has been the center of controversy since its inception. However, new information is revealing there is more dirt hidden amidst the facilities. According to Manus Open MP, Hon Ronny Knight, the asylum seekers and local girls employed at the center are producing pornographic videos. Posting on social site, Facebook, the MP said: “I just viewed a shocking phone video of the xxx rated type featuring asylum seekers in the camp and young Manus girls working there! I am going to take this clip to the Australian High Commission and show how out of control G4s has allowed these people to become!! This clip is truly sickening.” The Manus processing centre has been the topic of controversy for violation against human rights with Amnesty International describing it as “[sic]…cruel, inhuman, degrading and violating prohibitions against torture…”

NAC directors resign amid political interference

Three directors of the National Airports Corporation (NAC) have reportedly resigned after political interference from ministers of state. The National (August 17) reported that directors Michael Koisen, Joseph Kintau and Jerry Agus tendered their resignations on Friday (14 August) after a board decision to revoke the appointment of the acting Managing Director (MD)/CEO and revert to his substantive as General Manager (GM) - Commercial was overturned by Civil Aviation (CA) Minister Lekwa Gure and Finance Minister Renbo Paita as nominee shareholders.  The trio said the decision by the board was based on an audit report (BARCC Report), and came after lengthy deliberation. They further warned that turning a blind eye to the report could place the corporation at significant financial risk and an erosion in its corporate governance and compliance process.  Koisen, Kintau and Agus were all sworn in as directors early this year after being appointed by the National Executive Council (NEC).
