PNG diplomat sent home after alleged molestation charge

A Papua New Guinean diplomat at the country’s embassy in Seoul, Korea, has allegedly been sent back home after being booked for molesting a woman at a club, Yonhap News Agency reports.

The 40 year old diplomat, the second secretary to the embassy, allegedly touched a young woman in her 20s who was lying inebriated at the club’s parking lot on Seoul's Itaewon Street. The incident happened around 9:30am on October 15 last year.

He is also suspected of attacking an acquaintance of the woman who protested against the diplomat.

The diplomat was grilled by police but managed to use his diplomatic immunity, and returned to PNG on February 2. However, the South Korean foreign embassy has been notified that the diplomat will be punished in the country according to PNG laws.
