Juffa calls for authorities to be investigated

Port Moresby - Firebrand politician Gary Juffa is calling for Papua New Guinean authorities who harbored Indonesian fugitive Djoko Tjandra to be investigated and charged.  The Oro Governor made the call after Tjandra was arrested in Malaysia and repatriated to Indonesia after more than a decade on the run. According to the Jakarta Post , Tjandra spent 11 years on the run.  Juffa had raised the issue back in 2012 warning the government from dealing with Tjandra. He says the former government knowingly harbored and conducted business with the international fugitive.  He added that the recent arrest should signal an investigation into those involved in harboring Tjandra and commended the Malaysian police for taking action - something PNG authorities could have done long ago.  Juffa also said the arrest should be a wake up call for PNG to improve her security systems including immigration, foreign affairs, customs and other state agencies.     Tjandra fle...

Nambawan Super distributing statements and membership ID cards

Nambawan Super Ltd (NSL) is currently distributing members’ statements and ID cards at their branch offices nationwide. In a public statement, NSL said the exercise would be conducted from June 16 – 30 and members who did not collect their cards and statements would have them mailed. This would also be applied for members in Port Moresby, Central and Gulf provinces. Meanwhile members who have received a pre-printed ID are also asked to visit their nearest branch to have ID photos taken to be printed on the cards. Red ants wage war on borer

By: ABIGAIL APINA   A COUPLE in East New Britain has claimed that red ants have played a vital role in tackling cocoa pod borer (CPB) in their cocoa block. They noticed a few weeks ago that the quality of cocoa that was covered with red ants was better than those without ants. “The quality of cocoa with red ants on them is good and creamy, and we believe this could be a possible solution to fighting CPB throughout the country,” they said. James and Bonnie Wartovo said they were amazed when they realised the difference when harvesting cocoa in the past few weeks. Another villager also claimed that ants were fighting CPB in her backyard cocoa block. She told The National that she had been monitoring her cocoa trees for a few weeks and later concluded, after several harvests, that red ants were fighting the borer.
