The leader of Papua New Guinea’s shadow government, Belden Namah, has been referred to the Parliamentary Privileges Committee by the Speaker to answer for allegations he raised on the floor.

The referral was requested by Prime Minister, Peter O’Neil, after Namah alleged “unholy decisions” by the PM during his recent visit to Israel which included signing an agreement for an Israeli firm to overtake management of the PNG Sustainable Development Program (SDP) funds.

The PM also requested the committee to appoint two qualified psychiatrists to evaluate and determine if the shadow leader is qualified to hold public office. However, this request was denied.

Molesting PNG diplomat charged

The Papua New Guinea (PNG) diplomat who was arrested in Seoul, Korea in relation to sexual molestation charges has been charged accordingly by his departmental head, Loop PNG reports. The 40 year old diplomat allegedly molested an inebriated woman who was lying at a parking lot at the city’s Iteawon Street. The diplomat returned to the country earlier this year. Meanwhile, news of the diplomat’s misbehavior has upset minister responsible Rimbik Pato. He said upon receipt of the reports, formal disciplinary charges under the Public Service have been served on the officer by his department head. Pato said, As required under this process, the officer has been given seven days to respond to the allegations.   It is important that the officer is given fair opportunity to present his side of the story. Minister Pato also said diplomats have been warned of zero tolerance toward improper behavior while serving in overseas missions.

Nambawan Super distributing statements and membership ID cards

Nambawan Super Ltd (NSL) is currently distributing members’ statements and ID cards at their branch offices nationwide. In a public statement, NSL said the exercise would be conducted from June 16 – 30 and members who did not collect their cards and statements would have them mailed. This would also be applied for members in Port Moresby, Central and Gulf provinces. Meanwhile members who have received a pre-printed ID are also asked to visit their nearest branch to have ID photos taken to be printed on the cards.
