Papua New Guinea records 3 new cases of Covid-19

Papua New Guinea (PNG) authorities have reported 3 new cases of coronavirus (Covid-19) this week. According to the reports, the 3 cases are an expat resident and two locals. 

The expat identified as Case 9, a 44 year old male officer with the Australian Defense Force (ADF), has been repatriated to Australia. He called the toll free number after feeling unwell on June 9. Case 10 is also a member of the disciplined forces. 

Case 10 is reportedly a 27 year old female with the PNG Defense Force (PNGDF) at Murray Barracks but lives offsite in a shared accommodation. Case 11 is a female and close contact of Case 10. These two cases were discovered in a 24 hour period.

The 2 local cases are doing well and being monitored by health authorities.  

Meanwhile, health authorities are still investigating the source of infections.

Molesting PNG diplomat charged

The Papua New Guinea (PNG) diplomat who was arrested in Seoul, Korea in relation to sexual molestation charges has been charged accordingly by his departmental head, Loop PNG reports. The 40 year old diplomat allegedly molested an inebriated woman who was lying at a parking lot at the city’s Iteawon Street. The diplomat returned to the country earlier this year. Meanwhile, news of the diplomat’s misbehavior has upset minister responsible Rimbik Pato. He said upon receipt of the reports, formal disciplinary charges under the Public Service have been served on the officer by his department head. Pato said, As required under this process, the officer has been given seven days to respond to the allegations.   It is important that the officer is given fair opportunity to present his side of the story. Minister Pato also said diplomats have been warned of zero tolerance toward improper behavior while serving in overseas missions.

Nambawan Super distributing statements and membership ID cards

Nambawan Super Ltd (NSL) is currently distributing members’ statements and ID cards at their branch offices nationwide. In a public statement, NSL said the exercise would be conducted from June 16 – 30 and members who did not collect their cards and statements would have them mailed. This would also be applied for members in Port Moresby, Central and Gulf provinces. Meanwhile members who have received a pre-printed ID are also asked to visit their nearest branch to have ID photos taken to be printed on the cards.
